We have one current strong house group run by Pam Sadler, there are about 7-8 of us that regularly meet.As a group we decide what we would like to study. We usually follow material from Scripture Union or CWR. These studies have been very interesting and are helping us grow as a home group, there are usually 6 /7 questions or discussion starters. We are a mixed group of people different age groups and all at different stages of our walk with Christ. This is fantastic that we are a mixed group because it means we learn from one another. A key point to understand is there are no silly questions at house group. We finish the evening with fellowship over tea and coffee.
Is a nurturing group to help many of us approach the subjects that breach a gap between us and Jesus or subjects that need more time to look at. We have just finished planning our next 6 week course which starts 4th September 2017. We are going to be using the material provided with the Film War room, we will be focusing on Prayer. Mustard seeds meets when the house group not running. We are looking at ahead already and planning the one off Christmas session. .
There is an active group of prayers in the family of St Johns’ these are built up in different forms we have our prayers that lead the intercessions in the service. We then have a dedicated team of people that will pray for you and with you at anytime. We have the prayer area manned on Communion Services but the team is available at all times for prayer this same group of people and some other members receive the prayer chain emails these are prayer requests that we have either been asked to share or had permission to share for prayer with the rest of the team. This is fantastic that we have this as we can have a group of people praying for a situation in a few moments after being asked.
Pastoral care team
We recognise the need to organise our pastoral care to ensure that people are not overlooked. The Church has a Missions and Pastoral committee who have responsibility for ensuring that there is sufficient pastoral care for the Parish.
St. John’s has a robed choir who sing at Sunday services as well as at special services and weddings. The choir has enthusiasm and true passion for worshipping God through music. Singing at most services comprises a combination of traditional hymns and more modern worship songs. Hymns are normally accompanied by the pipe organ and modern songs by the keyboard.
The Church has a Director of Music, who plays the Organ and Keyboards, an assistant Director of Music/ Adult Choir Leader, a Junior Choir Leader, who work with the rest of the Ministry team to choose the appropriate music for all settings.
Seven years ago a Junior Choir was re-established and has won many awards in recent years.
There is a small band of ringers who regularly ring for Sunday morning and special services. The ringers typically practise each week.
